‘Don’t miss out on your destiny. And never forget the people who love you – the supporters!’
Roger Millward MBE (16 September 1947 – 2 May 2016)

In memory of the late, great Roger Millward, this installation celebrates the Hull Kingston Rovers and Great Britain rugby league captain and coach.

Located in Park Health Centre in Hull, the former rugby grounds for the club, you’ll see and hear a film and soundscape depicting a timeline of Roger’s life in rugby league, memories from family, friends, players and fans charting his celebrated career, many previously unheard anecdotes and more.

This piece is  part of the Arts in Health programme and particularly highlights the importance of preserving and sharing memories through oral history to help raise awareness for people suffering with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Typically, a person with dementia can recall things from many years ago, but not recent events. Sharing life experiences, memories and stories from the past draws on this strength and can give a huge sense of competence and confidence.

This art installation was created by Hull artist, Andrew Pea.

With grateful thanks to Roger’s family, friends, fans, and everyone else who came to share their stories and memories with us. A special thanks to Hull Kingston Rovers and the HKR Heritage Group for all their support in this project.
