Both teams worked together to gain an understanding of the procedures to ensure delivery was consistent with all other Esteem projects.
As the project was funded by public funds, a key driver involved the review and close management of project variations to control the project spend and budget.
Countdown to completion meetings assisted with the phased handover of the project, ensuring the maintenance team and client were educated on the building operation in advance of the phased handover.
The project consisted of two key phases, the Market Hall and the Arcade. Following the handover of the Phase 1 Market Hall a project review session was undertaken to highlight any lessons learned in the first phase and incorporate improvements into the Phase 2 Arcade delivery.
The project was undertaken in a live market, where it was essential to ensure there was little to no disruption to the market traders and member of the public. Health and Safety management was also critical.
Close working with Hull City Council and consultation with traders helped to ensure a win-win outcome was achieved for all parties.
The project involved a number of variations and changes to meet the specific requirements of the market traders. These changes were incorporated in the project in a swift and practical manner which helped to minimise impacts on the project.Read about the results
The whole project was delivered on time, within budget and also resulting in zero accidents.
The refurbishment has recreated a popular Hull destination, activating the market. The existing traders in the market were provided with refurbished stalls.
The market re-opened to the public in January 2018.
